What is Barak Obama’s position on the second amendment to the U.S. Constitution? Is he for or against the right to own guns?

AP reporter Nedra Pickler wrote:

Senator Obama, a former constitutional law instructor, said some scholars argue the Second Amendment to the Constitution guarantees gun ownerships only to militias, but he believes it grants individual gun rights.

“I think there is an individual right to bear arms, but it’s subject to commonsense regulation” like background checks, he said during a news conference.

Although Obama supports gun control, while campaigning in gun-friendly Idaho earlier this month, he said he does not intend to take away people’s guns.

At a news conference, he recently voiced support for the District of Columbia’s ban on handguns, which is scheduled to be heard by the Supreme Court next month.

“The notion that somehow local jurisdictions can’t initiate gun safety laws to deal with gang bangers and random shootings on the street isn’t born out by our Constitution,” Obama said.

So what are we to make of Obama’s position on gun ownership? He may tell campaign audiences that he believes in the right to own guns if that is what they want to hear. In the name of security, his idea of commonsense regulation is making gun ownership completely illegal. That is what the Washington D.C. ban is. No resident if Washington D.C. may possess a gun in his or her homes.

Pickler shows us the big picture concerning his position on the second amendment. He is either actually believes the right to bear arms is not for every citizen or he does not really know what he believes. The latter is not excusable because he is a U.S. Senator who swore an oath to uphold the Constitution and he was constitutional law professor for 10 years. The only logical conclusion is no absolute guarantee exists to American citizens to own guns. City officials argue that riding the city of gun eliminate their availability to criminals. The problem, however, is not with the majority of citizens who obey the law. The problem is with criminals who did not turn in their guns or more than likely purchase guns on the black market.

Some may agree with Obama and liberal city officials that banning gun ownership is the only way to rid the city of gun violence. They would be wrong.

John R. Lott Jr., a senior research scientist at the University of Maryland and author of More Guns, Less Crime, argues that the city officials reasoning about eliminating the city from gun violence is flawed. He said after the law went into effect DC crime statistics shows gun violence increased not decreased.

“In the five years before Washington’s ban in 1976, the murder rate fell from 37 to 27 per 100,000. In the five years after it went into effect, the murder rate rose back up to 35. But there is one fact that seems particularly hard to ignore. D.C.’s murder rate fluctuated after 1976 but has only once fallen below what it was in 1976 (that happened years later, in 1985). Does D.C. really want to argue that the gun ban reduced the murder rate?”

Lott also says crime rates soared in other cities like Chicago after guns were banned.

“Chicago has banned all handguns since 1982. Indeed, D.C. points to Chicago’s ban to support its own ban. But, the gun ban didn’t work at all when it came to reducing violence. Chicago’s murder rate fell from 27 to 22 per 100,000 in the five years before the law and then rose slightly to 23. The change is even more dramatic when compared to five neighboring Illinois counties: Chicago’s murder rate fell from being 8.1 times greater than its neighbors in 1977 to 5.5 times in 1982, and then went way up to 12 times greater in 1987.”

Larry Pratt says he asked Washington D.C. mayor, police officials, and other if they had any data showing the gun ban law was reducing gun related violence in the city. No official knew of any data nor could produce any statistics showing the 25 year old law worked.

Banning guns has been tried in many parts of the world with similar results. If the gun violence has not been significantly reduced or has risen as a result of the gun ban, why do public continue their pursuit to prohibit citizens from their constitutional right to protect themselves?

National Review Online columnist Daivd Kopel wrote a five-part series on the United Nation’s plan to rid the world of guns. The U.N. has made July 9 a holiday to celebrate Small Arms and Light Weapons Destruction Day. As Kopel notes,

“July 9 was not the first time that governments had lit bonfires to destroy resistance to the power of the government. Germany’s Josef Goebbels ordered all Jewish books to be burned in public on May 10, 1933. University towns were centers of Jewish Books Destruction Day.”

Kopel connects the dots to many other historical events and other repressive programs of the U.N. (To read his series that began on July 30, 2001, go here.)

When government officials know their unjust laws will likely result in violent dissent as happened in 1776, they first attempt to eliminate the means of resistance, namely guns. One of the reasons the Framers of the Constitution wrote the second amendment was to forever enable the people to repel another tyrannical government as well as foreign invasion.

Barak Obama, Senator from Illinois, is not the only Democrat candidate who thinks that common sense gun regulation mean conforming to the U.N.’s ban on guns. Let it not be said that the generational gap between liberal new school Obama and liberal old school Clinton is small; it is non-existent.

Um, excuse me if my reading comprehension is lacking, but it doesn’t seem like you actually drew a connection between Washington D.C.’s gun ban and Barack Obama. Instead, you said:

Washington D.C. has a gun ban.
Barack Obama is a senator.
Therefore, Barack Obama is responsible for D.C.’s gun ban.

Which, you know, doesn’t make any sense.

LONG LIVE THE SECOND AMENDMENT - December 2, 2009

Well then obvisouly you didn’t read the whole thing.

DAN - December 2, 2010

JAMELLE NO THATS NOT WHAT HE SAID,,YES YOUR READING COMPREHENSION SUX BIG TIME ..YOU SHOULD DO YOUR HOMEWORK WHEN CONFRONTING LOTT…REREAD ACTUALLY ANSWER THIS SOLE QUESTION:DO YOU THINK ALL MEN SHOULD BE ABLE TO CARRY GUNS OR JUST THE LLAW AND ARMED SERVICES?

2. Daniel Downs - February 28, 2008

Nice syllogism. Wrong but nice.

3. Jamelle - February 29, 2008

It wasn’t meant to be a syllogism per say, just a shorter version of what you wrote.

4. Daniel Downs - February 29, 2008

Even though he is among those who have regulatory oversight of DC, I didn’t say he is responsible. He said he supports it, which means he supports no gun ownership like in his own state, like the UN, like those with criminal intent, like those do not abide by the law, like those who don’t abide by the 2nd amendment.

good

6. Nathan - June 23, 2008

Well I am from Kansas. I own mulitple guns. I do see the need to do something with the people that use guns in a wrong manner, but to blame guns for killing people is wrong. Guns do make it easier to kill someone but mankind has been kill each other for many hundred thousands of years and most of the time without guns. People kill People not guns. It takes someone to pull the trigger, just like swinging a sword or an axe. Hearing on what cities are doing, just makes be happy that I am a redneck from the country. If we take guns away, people will still find ways to kill each other. And I know this is cliche; They can take my gun when they pry it from my dead cold hands!

Anonymous - November 4, 2009

you make a good point for someone who works in the sun, i agree that many people do need self protection but for necessary and dangerous situations. PEOPLE KILL PEOPLE

LONG LIVE THE SECOND AMENDMENT - December 2, 2009

True that brother! they will never take my guns away, I personaly garantee that!

Cody - April 15, 2010

Im totally with you. im from kentucky and i also own mulitple guns. I so also agree that guns dont kill people. people kill people. I know that someone can kill someone with just about anything. Even a pencil!! Are we going to ban pencils now too?

7. Daniel Downs - June 23, 2008

Where would we Americans be without guns? Still under the oppressive regime of the British Empire. The way things seem to be heading under the oppressive reign of fascist pax Americana under the dominion of democratic party of many fascists–long live Barak Hussein Obama just not in the presidency. Nathan keep those guns loaded because they may needed for liberty again.

8. Lacie - July 23, 2008

I didn’t really see a conclusion in this article either. I basically read that Obama has been heard saying different things. So has every other presidential candidate in the history of presidential candidates.
I wish people would just stop nitpicking and focus on bigger issues like perhaps the fact that he was seen purposely not saying the pledge of allegiance and then seen wearing a flag pin.
Those seem bigger than gun control.
I’d rather someone be conflicted about gun control than be conflicted about whether or not he is faithful to his country.

gggg - February 17, 2010

so your saying that we shouldnt worry about guns but a flag pin?? dude get real

Cody - April 15, 2010

Thats lame. you really need to get your priorities straight. Ur really going to flip about a pin? I agree with gggg U really need to get a grip!!

9. Daniel Downs - July 23, 2008

Barak Obama, Senator from Illinois, thinks that common sense gun regulation mean conforming to the U.N.’s ban on guns. That means Obama is actually against gun ownership and that we should ignore the 2nd Amendment to the Constitution. That means Obama is very unconstitutionally un-American. He could wear the flag and salute it all day long; but when he opposes Constitution, he opposes our only Constitutional protection against tyrantasorous polticians.

10. Anonymous - September 16, 2008

Ladies and Gentlemen, This could have a domino effect on our society. When we give the govt the power to regulate a constitutional right that is clearly written, we have opened the doors for more regulations to come. The 2nd amendment gives an American the right own firearms in order to protect his life, liberty’s, and those around him. That also includes the govt itself. No one has the right to deny me and my countrymen our rights to owning firearms. No matter the type. Even if you dont like the 2nd amendment and dont express it. Respect those who do. Those who forfeit someones rights forfeits their own.

11. Fred - September 18, 2008

Show me the evidence that proves banning guns reduces crime. We have serious evidence that banning guns basically increases violent gun deaths by thugs and evil people. Everyone who cares about the issue knows this already. But, the gun-banners don’t seem to care about the evidence. They just think “more guns, more crime”… well, then, since just about everyone in 1776 owned a gun, how did the country manage to survive? Why didn’t John Adams go on a killing spree? He had a gun, so he could go out and kill anyone he wanted to at any time. Some people think having a gun in your possession makes you want to kill people just because you can. Almost as if the gun has an evil hypnotic power over the owner. Um, no. That’s just not the case. You will always have thugs who don’t care about others lives, you will always have deranged people who can go off like a time bomb, etc. The rest of us need the ability to protect ourselves from such people. Notice how the “gun free zones” are where the biggest massacres occur. No accident there. Gun banners only affect the law-abiding folk, why can’t we all understand this? Get real, people!

12. darthzero - September 19, 2008

Interesting discussion over the past few months huh? Allow me to point out something that should be obvious.

Barack Obama never said that he thinks D.C. should ban all handguns. If you actually read what AP reporter Nedra Pickler wrote, she quoted Obama as saying, “The notion that somehow local jurisdictions can’t initiate gun safety laws to deal with gang bangers and random shootings on the street isn’t born out by our Constitution,”.

Since most of you seem to agree with Daniel Downs’ interpretation that what Obama meant was: “In the name of security, his idea of commonsense regulation is making gun ownership completely illegal. That is what the Washington D.C. ban is. No resident if Washington D.C. may possess a gun in his or her homes”, I must point out that this was Posted by Daniel Downs, not Barack Obama.

Where did Sen. Obama say that gun ownership should be completely illegal? Oh, that’s right! He didn’t say it at that “press conference” and he never said it anywhere else. All he said was that the Constitution doesn’t prohibit local jurisdictions from initiating their own gun laws; and guess what folks? The Constitution does not prohibit local jurisdictions from initiating their own gun laws.

Well, we don’t need to worry about it now. The Supreme Court has overturned the D.C. gun ban and Barack agrees with the decision. “Today’s decision reinforces that if we act responsibly, we can both protect the constitutional right to bear arms and keep our communities and our children safe.”

Call it a flip-flop if you want to, but saying that Obama wants to make gun ownership completely illegal is a super-dooper-lie. A LIE.. Stop lying..

DAN - December 2, 2010

DARTHZERO…2ND AMENDMENT SAYS ALL MEN CAN,,,ALL ABLE BODIED MEN,,,THATS A FED LAW TRUMPING A STATE LAW…EH? THE CONSTITUTION ENTAILS ALL AMERICANS AS DOES THE BILL OF RIGHTS FOR IS IT NOT PART OF THE CONSTITUTION? LMAO HELLO

[…] revealed itself this election cycle for what it really is. Obama’s first amendment agenda. His second amendment agenda. Obama’s education agenda (already partially implemented.) Politician Obama helps elect. […]

14. Geoff Kelly - October 21, 2008

We have a slime ball governor in Illinois who ran on a ticket that included his support of gun owners rights. His name is Rod Blajogovitch and he is governor of Illinois. He is 100% totally agianst the second amendment…period. Oh Dear! He lied..what a concept! a lying politician. If elected president you will find that, like his voting record, Obama will be the greatest gun grabber you have ever seen

15. clint - October 21, 2008

jamelle, he said Barack supported the d.c. ban in the beginning. read it again.

16. Darthzero - October 24, 2008

Geoff Kelly, you seem so sure that Obama “will be the greatest gun grabber” we have ever seen; well, can you prove it? He has never voted to take away anybody’s guns, never. He did vote against a state bill twice in Illinois that would have overturned a local ordinance that banned handguns in the home. Just as in the case of the D.C. handgun ban, Obama believes that the Constitution does not prevent local jurisdictions from making their own gun laws.

Think about it from this perspective; if your town has relaxed gun laws where any and everybody can have any gun they want, but your state passes a law banning all handguns, Barack Obama would be against that state law because it would overturn that local law.

Here’s one more fact for you fear-mongers out there; on June 26th, yes four months ago, the U.S. Supreme ruled D.C.’s gun ban unconstitutional. Do any of you ‘smart’ (yeah right) gun lovers know what that means? Well folks, it means that even if your psychotic reasoning is true and Obama wants to “make all gun ownership illegal”, he would need Bush’s ‘magic wand’ to do so.

So I’m going to ask one more time, stop lying. Republicans are getting hammered this election because you won’t stop lying. Your guns are safe, so find another reason to hate Obama; that shouldn’t be too hard for you. Lying and whining about your guns just makes you all sound stupid. Stop lying liars..

17. Daniel Downs - October 24, 2008

Wait a minute Darthzero–doesn’t voting against an ordinance that would remove a DC-like ban of gun ownership mean being against gun ownership? Doesn’t that also mean Illinois legislator Obama is against gun-ownership? Shouldn’t everyone believe in US Senator Obama is still a anti-gun ownership politician whatever office? Should be become Pres. should we all expect him to still oppose the 2nd Amendment?

18. Anonymous - November 5, 2008

Darth Zero, Obama said Federal, State, and Local government can regulate guns, Not just local government. That IS unconstitutional.

19. Darthzero - November 5, 2008

Well Daniel, I guess we’re going to find out!! How about this; if President Obama (oh that feels good) goes after our guns, I will concede defeat to your logic [against overturning gun ban = pro-gun ban]. However, if President Obama (still feels good) doesn’t go after our guns or the second amendment, all you have to do is grab your gun, cuddle up to it, and say “my warm, alive hands!” I’ll just say “I told you so. nah nah nah nah nah..”

20. Darthzero - November 7, 2008

Hi Anonymous! Forgive me, I need clarification about what you said. Are you saying that local government regulating guns IS unconstitutional? Meaning that a city or town cannot make their own gun laws?

21. TOM - November 8, 2008

im thinking darth is a major little child in a 18 year old body, whinning liberal, all democrapes want to tax tax tax and spend spend spend, and all demos have for years gone out of there way to take away the 2nd amendment, always, and i as an american will always fight even if it means with my 2nd amendmet rights to stop these people from stealing my country and our rights, by the way obama voted present on the anti gun laws in IL..

22. Forrest - November 8, 2008

Our guns have been an important part of our history and my life. Obama is very much aginst the 2nd admendment if you ask me.When we say “our right to bear arms” it does not stop at hunting and target shooting but it goes on to self defense. If our right to defend ourselves is tooken away then that gives an advantage to the criminals who can get anything they want. We will be defenseless as they bust down our doors. Dosent that give the criminals an advantage? Now taxing use all on ammo and ceasing the manufacturing of guns is not right. If you want to do something about the criminals buy more guns and arm the citizens of the U.S. You will see the crime will go down. And banning handguns isnt a good idea ethier. Their faster than long guns and easier to conceal. If they ban it the only people who are with them are unresponsible criminals. Same with assult weapons. The only wepons i think might not be a good idea for civilians to have is missels and such. But all guns belong in the hands of a responsible citizen. And i think we should be aloud to carry them through the street. Oh by the way Darthzero i agree with TOM about you.

23. GOP - November 11, 2008

Barack Hussein Obama is against the 2nd ammendment as are most liberals. To take away the 2nd amendment would be to give the govt. control and the law abiding citizens a place to kiss their ass. If someone is to take away the 2nd amendment then there will be a revolution to overthrow the tyrinical govt. led by Barack “Hussein” Obama.

P.S. How can we elect a man who goes to a reverend who should be president of the black panther society. But oh yea, as soon as that was brought up he dropped Wright as if he was hot. For crying out loud he baptized his kids. You can’t tell me that that was not a political move along without placing his hand over his chest during the pledge of allegiance. How can we trust such a man.

24. Brian - November 12, 2008

If you want to play with guns, join the military or become a cop.

LONG LIVE THE SECOND AMENDMENT - December 2, 2009

First off, people don’t play with guns. The right to own and bear arms is a constitutional right that shall not be infringed!

25. SEAL76 - November 15, 2008

Brian, I have been a Navy SEAL and my son was also a SEAL. We did not PLAY with guns. People in Armed Forces and Police Forces of the USA do not PLAY with guns. They use them to protect your sorry butt from the bad guys who want to kill you and yours. They also are sworn to uphold the Constitution of the United States Of America. The Bill of Rights are the first ten amendments to that Constitution. The Second Amendment gives us the right to own firearms. If you don’t want to own a firearm that is your choice. No one will force you to do so. If I want to own a firearm no one has the right to tell me I cannot. Without these firearms the rest of the Constitution would be worthless.

LONG LIVE THE SECOND AMENDMENT - December 2, 2009

Could not have said it bettter myself.

26. Todd302 - November 17, 2008

Seal thank you for serving 1st of all i am a veteran also and barrack obama is going to be terrible for the military or the 2nd amendment and the liberals need to pay attention to him he has yet to keep the same stance on any issue good day all and god bless

27. Tyler - November 18, 2008

Try prohibition on for size, we banned alcohol and look what happened-mass chaos and violent crime. Think what will happen when he takes guns away, could get very ugly. There’s a reason it is the 2nd amendment, because it’s very important.

28. Forrest - November 22, 2008

ok brian do me a favor and get some brains. Seal76 is right they dont play with guns the use them to defend. You cant just go shoot for fun you are ordered to target practice in a fashison as if you were in combat. And Brian heres a question for you and all those other god damn librels out there. If you live in a place called Alaska (yeah thats right sounds foriegn to ya’ll dont it) where there are bears which will gore you. I live in the f**ken cabin in the middle of nowhere and how the hell do you think i defend myself from those suckers? Bear spray dose NOT work. Its been proven. I relie on my guns for food and bear/human defense buddy. i cant just go to god damn wall mart every time i fell like im hungary

29. Todd302 - December 2, 2008

Look at britian where criminals overpower the police crime has skyrocketed there its amazing the thinking that taking away protection will help america certain great americans hunt for there food oh buts wrong oh wait u liberals buy meat at the market get real people god bless our veterans and lets keep those guns

33. Todd302 - January 7, 2009

Who would he use to confinscate the guns?

34. anonymous 2 - January 18, 2009

Note that states within the U.S. which have the lowest violent crime rates are the states which allow the easiest access to guns (for law abiding citizens) yet have the harshest penalties for their misuse. This can also be seen in other countries. We the people are our own militia, we alone are responsible for our defense. Law abiding American citizens should be allowed access to all types of firearms, and Obama does not agree, granted that there should be extremely harsh punishments for firearm misuse. Remember, “there is no constituional right to be protected by the state against being murdered by criminals and madmen” U.S. Appelate Court, not to mention that “a government and its agents are under no general duty to offer public services such as police protection, to any particular citizen”. D.C. Superior Court. Your life is your responsiblility, so I completely agree with anonymous Dec. 7.

Our second amendment right is all we have to protect ourselves from this evil world. Without it, more lives are lost than saved. I’m not going to type a lengthy opinion on this subject due to the fact of comprehention. Everyone needs to know the facts on the subject before voicing an opinion. Are rights are all we have, let’s fight for them!

36. just an idiot - January 28, 2009

I interpret President Obama’s stance to be constitutional. “The right of the people” (collectively) “to keep and bear arms” (own guns) “shall not be infringed” (by any FEDERAL law). 2nd amendment does and should not guarantee rights to EVERY citizen as convicted criminals are still citizens. Further, power of the state and local governments regarding gun rights is not usurped by US 2nd amendment. Each state can and does have it’s own laws concerning firearm ownership. As do most local governments. His stance seems clear and constitutional – keep the federal government out of the picture on gun rights and leave it to the states and locals. I am pro 2nd amendment and wish it extended to state and local protection, but it does not per the constitution. So he can support the DC law while also being supportive of the 2nd. I am not familiar with his stance respective to the U.N. so will not comment on that.

37. Dan - January 29, 2009

So, what do all you naysayers knocking this article in support of Obamanation have to say now?! With so many more pressing issues he’s still pushing his own agenda…taking our guns being one of them. Like Dan quoted in this article, the statistics are out there, so it is obviously not for the public’s safety and welfare that these anti-gun folks/politicians continue their rampage to destroy our 2nd Amendment rights!

For the record…I hate people who push their own personal agendas!

38. Anonymous - February 13, 2009

A gun law can not and will not be enforced. It’s one thing to make a law against guns, it’s another thing to enforce that law. It won’t happen. I have a friend in Australia, which now has gun enforcement laws, but he still has his guns and says everyone else kept their guns. He said the law is in name and “political correctness” only. There is little to no effort to even attempt to enforce the law. The police are too busy chasing killers, thieves, and drug cartels, who, by the way, didn’t dispose of their guns either.

39. Frank Barbosa - February 20, 2009

There is a gun culture in the United States that has been prevalent since the settlement of the New World. The 2nd amendment will never be repealed. It can’t happen. Too many people have guns in their homes and stores. Most of these guns are used for self-defense in case of a home invasion or something like that. Guns being used for self-defense is felt to be necessary by some people and I respect that. Personally, I would never own a gun, but I respect people’s wishes to protect their homes and businesses. To prevent furthur gun violence in the US, backround checks must be conducted on people wishing to purchase guns. Also, the illegal sale of guns and ammunition must be cracked down on. The illegal purchasing of guns is how most criminals purchase their weapons of choice. Once we can do this, gun violence with decrease significantly. In case anyone was wondering, I am a Democrat. And by the way…I think its absolutely ridiculous that some people insult each other on this comment board. That is why some of you could never/ will never be involved in the political process. You are hot-heads. Just state the facts and go on with your business. Thanks

40. bugman - February 24, 2009

To Frank Barbosa and to all. I have read every reply in this forum and I agree with Frank and some others. The 2nd amendment is and should be important to all citizens whether you choose to own a firearm or not. Remember history. Every monster dictorship that has previously come to power, did so by first seizing all the guns of the citizens. Let’s not let it happen here in the United States.

During the history of the Constitution, the 2nd amendment has been challenged, criticized and shaken. Yet, no president, senator or government official has ever came close to repealing it. It will never happen so quit looking for a reason to go on a hell-bent mission to slam Obama. The truth here is that so many people are SCARED TO DEATH of having a black president. If it weren’t gun control issues we were arguing about, it would be something else. And here’s a perhaps frightening but true point- opposing the Constitution or any part of it does not make you “un-American.” Has anyone read the part of the Constitution that tells us not only is it our right but our duty as AMERICANS to question our government and abolish any part of it that society, as a whole, feels is not working? No, I don’t want to lose my right to bear arms (which I’m not afraid of happening anyway) but I’m much more concerned with the state the economy is in, the state our schools are in and the thousands of men and women fighting a fruitless war (though I’m sure all you Obama haters think we’re over there for a truly legitimate reason). Before you get yourselves all worked up towards a revolution, take a breath, relax, put your guns away and wait to see if constitutional tragedy even manifests.

What people may not know, is that Obama may likely get rid of the 2nd amendment for future actions. This is all part of what these so called “elite bankers” want to do to secure their goals of a New World Order and Globalization. It’s a crazy thing but it appears to be true. Obama says that he is for the right to bear arms, but its soon to come that banning guns from citizens will happen. With this and future actions from Obama, our country can potentionally become into a socialist nation. (All this info i got was from a video of “the deception of Obama” and it seems to be all true, you should watch it on youtube)

hmm i can see the guys concern for the keeping of the 2nd amendment, i think individual states should put the limits on the guns based on the statistics. problem is, the more illegal they it only encourages the gangsters to get their hands on them. its a lose-lose situation!

Karl Marx would be proud. Our refusal to stand up to Leftist Marxism has us trudging down the path to oblivion. Sadly, we can never go back. Again The Serpent has driven us from Eden with deciet. Good bye America, it was nice to have known you.

“Laws that forbid the carrying of arms… disarm only those who are neither inclined
nor determined to commit crimes… Such laws make things worse for the assaulted and
better for the assailants; they serve rather to encourage thanto prevent homicides,
for an unarmed man may be attacked with greater confidence than an armed man.”

I am all for some type of regulation of firearms like felons and wack jobs should not be able to own a firearm. I have my cwp (that’s concealed weapons permit for you libs), and I choose to exercise my 2nd amendment right. If you don’t like firearms then you have the RIGHT not to own them. I am a conservative and disgusted with dems, repubs, and independants. I am fed up with government intrusion!

Well law abiding citizens will follow the gun laws and will not possess guns. On the other hand, criminals will keep their guns BECAUSE THEY ARE CRIMINALS. Correct me if I am wrong, but criminals commit crimes, not law abiding citizens.

i am only a sophmore in high school and i believe that people on here are right. when a government falls to dictatorship, communism, or socialism the guns are the first to go. if we let obama take our guns we might as well let him have our property and everything else. i honestly do not like obama. no it is not because he is black. no it is not because he is muslim. i do not like obama because he is going to f**k up our country and take away all our rights as citizens of America. by the way brian YOU ARE A STUPID IGNORANT DISRESPECTFUL PIECE OF TRASH! I CANT BELIEVE YOU WOULD DISRESPEST OUR MILITAY! THEY ARE THE ONES THAT KEEP YOUR ASS SAFE! YOU NEED TO THINK BEFOR YOU TALK AND GET SOME FAQS! to Frank Barbosa, SEAL76, Todd302 thank you! it seems that you are some or the smartest people on here.

61. LONG LIVE THE SECOND AMENDMENT - December 2, 2009

I am a seinor in high school and i too believe that the second amendment shall stand forever. we use them to protect ourselves aginst the evil world, and i believe that if obama takes away our guns that we will totally and completely be at the mercy of the government, crimaials and dangerous indiviuals. and i want to too thank all the SMART people on here. LONG LIVE THE SECOND AMENDMENT!!

62. seth - March 15, 2010

for cryin out loud, all those antigun people say that guns are evil, that is completly WRONG, guns are NOT evil, its the person behind the gun that determines whether or not a gun is evil and truth betold the vassed majority of us are smart, responsible, level headed people, its just the dumb carless jerks that get publicized. Firearms are used well over 2million times a year for personal defence and on top of that if you were to take our guns away criminals will still get em’ and violent crime will NOT go down. LONG LIVE THE 2nd AMENDMENT!!!!!

If you are a real estate professional, be really careful in dealing with KoRes Corp. in Weston Florida. Tulio Rodriguez & Monica Cataluna-Shand are shysters and look for anyway to steal ones customers. They attempt to steal your client by requesting their contact information and later contact them behind your back to get them to deal with them directly.

I believe in the second amendment and I believe it is wrong to take it away! This is America not Obamaland! I know he is our president but he shouldn’t be in my opinion! I believe that taking guns away will not reduce crime, it might even make it worse bacause people would rebel. A quote from the article is “One of the reasons the Framers of the constitution wrote the second amendment was to forever enable the people to repel another tyrannical government as well as foreign invasion” and i hate to say it Obama is turning out to be just like Hitler. He controls the media and is working to take guns away and I will not give them up without a fight! I may only be 13 years old but I know that my country should be run my someone with a little common sense!

It’s simple the second amendment says we can have guns. If you don’t agree with that go die in a hole.

66. Anonymous - January 31, 2011

the second amendment is in the bill of rights and can not be taken away and obama is trying to do that. its not the guns killing people it’s the person using it. if guns are banned people will still be killed. If obama doesnt like the way this country was founded, then he can go live in another country where it is ilegal to own guns.

President Obama took an oath to support, protect and defend the US of America’s Constitution and Bill of Rights when he was sworn in. That includes the Second Ammendment, which I believe protects our freedom as citizens more than any other. WHERE WOULD WE BE IF ONLY THE MILITARY AND CRIMINALS HAD GUNS? Think of the term Police State. The government could lock us all up and throw away the keys. My husband and I are liberal Democrats and gun owners who feel safer protected by the second ammendment and all our rights as United States citizens.

If he allows this to happen then it will for sure start a civil war in the US. If he allows the UN to come in here and take control he will loose control. The American people who use the second amendment every day by possessing firearms in the homes or even conceal carry legally every single day WILL stand up and fight for themselves, and may join forces with others and start the fight back. Many lives will be destroyed if he tries to do this. They say the world will end in 2012. People will destroy each other before the world ends if rights are taken away in The Land Of The Free.
